The Wynford Board of Education approved Superintendent Steve Mohr’s recommendation to join the Northern 10 Athletic Conference, effective for the 2014-15 school year. The new conference will contain the following teams: Wynford, Buckeye Central, Carey, Bucyrus, Colonel Crawford, Crestline, Mohawk, Ridgedale, Riverdale, and Seneca East.
“It’s unfortunate that our league broke up, no one’s happy about it,” Mohr said in an official statement, “But I think how quickly it broke up showed that this was inevitable.”
Mohr also commended Travis Moyer and Dave Dotson on the way this was handled, calling them “complete professionals.” Mohr said he felt compelled to speak up on the behalf of Dotson and Moyer due comments that had been going around the local communities and “gutless websites.”
“It was totally unprofessional that other administrators would call in and attack Dave. In 34 years in education, I’ve never seen anything like it,” Mohr said regarding Dotson’s appearance on Friday Night Phoneboard.
Mohr also said that he is looking forward to the new league and, “fair and competitive balance in every sport.”
Seventh grade language arts teacher Barb Auck made a presentation to the board about 21st Century Teaching Strategies. Auck presented what are becoming known as the new “3 R’s” in education: Rigor, Relevance, and Relationship (building).
She detailed how she has worked hard to build a culture of engagement, organization, and a sense of belonging.
Auck was helped in presentation by David Newland, one of her seventh grade students. Newland treated the board to a slideshow he had created entitled P.R.I.D.E. – Proud Royals In Diligent Effort. In this slideshow he mentioned the Golden Rule and his message of “Hard Work Peace Helpfulness.”
Mohr called Newland, “A real example of a success story at Wynford. Two years ago this never would have happened.”
Junior High Principal Jeffrey Holbrook joined Mohr in praising both Newland and Auck.
