Galion on the hunt for new athletic home

The Galion City Schools are looking for a new athletic conference now that the NCC has decided to disband.

Several area schools will be joining the new Northern Ten Athletic Conference, but it doesn’t look like the Galion schools will be one of them.

School Superintendent Dr. Kathy Jenney says “An existing league has to formally pass a resolution to invite a school for consideration to make formal application, and we as a district, have not been included in that conversation in terms of having the opportunity to go with the Northern 10, so we will definitely be looking for a new league along with Ontario and Upper Sandusky.”

Jenney says they will continue to be optimistic about their future. Galion was excited about joining the NCC and thought they were off to a great start, but were disappointed, as many schools were, at the turn of events that have happened in the last couple of months.

Jenney also says, “We’re all about doing what’s best for our students, and that’s finding a nice competitive league for us to continue to be a part of.”

Jenney also mentioned that it’s been a three year process for Galion because they spent a year initially looking at making the change and then a two year transition period, so now that cycle is going to start over again.

Jenney says it’s been difficult because each of the conferences in Ohio have their own bylaws and governing policies. Each league you talk to has a different set of standards on how they go about the process.
